Contact improvisation is a practice of moving freely in contact with another person or group of people. There are many different approaches to it. Here’s one.We are here, near each other. We clear our perception and listen, sense, genuinely, openly, freshly. What’s happening? How are we influencing each other’s bodies? How do the bodies respond? What subtle, background movement is already there? Inside us, between us, around us.
Among other sensations, there’s a subtle magnetism, absorption, soaking in. Between the mind and the body. Between the body and the space. Between the bodies. A subtle connecting, driving, guiding force. We follow - and it turns into a flow, inside us and between us. An ever-changing flow which we need to keep sensing freshly in order to follow all of its unpredictable intricate details.
The magnetism, as much as we manage to absorb into it, dynamically structures, connects, matches and moves our bodies in space with some sort of organic precision, which is impossible to recreate artificially, technically. It is akin to the natural precision with which our cells form our bodies. And possibly - with which cosmic forces move stars and planets as well as the fundamental particles everything is composed of.
Our contact improvisation is emergent. We don’t do it, but intensely allow it to happen, to unfold from the source, to manifest from the very nature of our physical interaction.
At this workshop I invite you to explore the nature of human physical interaction with the same spirit of curiosity and openness of perception with which fundamental physics scientists explore the very fabric of what is. In our case, not via intellect, but via direct experiencing. Via sincere immersing into whatever is happening between us, in the context of movement.
We will diligently attempt “to be the apple”, as Steve Paxton, one of the founders of contact improvisation, said in the Fall After Newton documentary, referring to sir Issac’s “aha moment” observing gravity move an apple. But we will explore not only the Earth’s gravity, but anything that feels as gravity. The somatic magnetism, absorption, soaking in. Arriving together deeper and deeper into what’s there, whatever it is.

My name is Andrey Voronkov. I have been practicing and teaching contact improvisation and other body-oriented practices for more than 10 years. I’m from Russia, but have been living in other places for quite some time. After spending 1,5 years in Warsaw I’m leaving Poland soon. This will be my farewell workshop.
It’ll be conducted in English with possible translation to Russian.
It is suitable to whoever is interested and inspired by it’s idea, regardless of the amount of experience in contact improvisation or anything related. It can be a good start of the CI journey or a possibility for seasoned practitioners to open-mindedly revisit the very basis of CI.

Places are limited (19, more than half already booked) and secured by a non-refundable prepayment of 50% of the amount you intend to pay in total. You can pay via bank transfer to an account you will receive upon registration. The rest can be payed on the day of the workshop - please send the confirmation before we start.

Bring water, wear clean clothes and something which will cover your knees (pants, not shorts). Don’t wear anything which might hinder your movement or hurt you or others in contact. Don’t wear strong perfume.
